Norman Edward Parkes was born in Walsall in 1898 , he served in France as a pilot with number 3 Fighter Squadron RFC from March 1918 until August 1918 when he was admitted to hospital , his service papers show that he flew amongst others Bristol Fighters, Sopwith Pups and Camels . In WW"2 he served from July 1941 until January 1944 with the Air Transport Auxiliary ferrying planes and was involved with a taxiing incident that damaged Hurricane IV KZ579 in August 1943
