Ernest Pearce served with the 4th Hampshire Regiment in Mesopotamia from March 1915 . He was awarded the MSM for services in Mesopotamia London Gazette the 19th of September 1919 as Pte - A Sjt , . He was also mentioned in despatches for Mesopotamia in the London Gazette of the 12th of March 1918 and again in the London Gazette of the 21st of February 1919


The 1/4th Battalion Hampshire Regiment landed at Karachi in India in November 1914 as part of the 4th (Rawalpindi) Brigade in the 2nd (Rawalpindi) Division before moving to Basra in March 1915: it remained in Mesopotamia and Persia for the rest of the war
