Pte J Lawrence 2nd Seaforth Highlanders was wounded dangerously on 16/10/1900 at Jagersfontein

(Jagersfontein district; Free State), 37 km south-east of Koffiefontein. In October 1900, the town was garrisoned by two companies of the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders, two guns and 100 men of the town guard and police commanded by Maj W. King-Hall. On the night of 16 October a party of burghers led by Cmdt P.J. Visser stole into the town and hid with some of the inhabitants until daybreak when they opened fire on the garrison, killing nine and wounding 12 of the defenders and liberating those in the gaol. Among the 28 burghers killed was Visser.
