WW1 pair 17263 CPL J W TWEEDIE R SCOTS

Joseph William Tweedie a 26 year old Clerk from Greenlea, Annan, Dumfries enlisted into the 15th ( 1st City of Edinburgh )battalion the royal Scots in October 1916. he served in France from February 1916 and was wounded on the first day of the Somme, Ist July 1916, receiving a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He spent 7 weeks in Whincliffe Hospital Sheffield recovering from his wound. He later returned to France and Flanders with the 11th Battalion Royal Scots and was killed in action on the 6th of June 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial
